To All High School Biology Teachers in Illinois: Do you want to learn more about DNA fingerprinting, lipid separation techniques, and a variety of other chemical separation techniques? In June of 2001 two wonderful workshop opportunities are available to biology teachers in the State of Illinois who are interested in such skills as chromatography, electrophoresis, DNA fingerprinting, and much more. Members of the Department of Biological Sciences at Western Illinois University have been awarded Scientific Literacy funds by the Illinois State Board of Education to provide two workshops for biology teachers wanting to enhance their skills in molecular and cellular biology techniques, specifically chromatography and electrophoresis. The first workshop will be an introductory workshop on chromatography and electrophoresis and will be held June 18-22; the second workshop will focus on advanced chromatographic and electrophoretic techniques and will be held the week of June 25-29. The primary objective of the workshops is to promote active learning through the use of problem solving and other higher order learning skills integrated into hands-on experimentation. If you are interested in learning more about these workshops, you may contact me at the following e-mail address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or by phone at (309) 298-1679. This system will not accept attachments, but I can e-mail the application materials to you easily. Sincerely, Laura M. Barden-Gabbei -- This is the CPS Science Teacher List.
