Modeling Workshops listed below are scheduled for this summer. We don't
have as many 3 and 4 week workshops this summer as we did last year, since
6 were denied Eisenhower funding (in spite of our U.S. Dept of Education
award last fall).
I encourage you to ask supportive faculty if they'd like to write a
proposal in the summer or fall. Refer them to me for a sample grant
proposal and supporting documents. Remember, getting a grant is considered
prestigious, in universities and colleges.
Ultimately, we need to institutionalize Modeling Workshops as university
courses taken by preservice and inservice teachers. For that, we need
statewide or regional University - High School partnerships for science
teaching reform. A Center for Physics Education would help in coordinating
the movement. The Bush administration's education plan looks promising, in
that it calls for statewide university - school partnerships.
cheers,
Jane
