Another trial, not of software but of free access to web based supplemental science curriculum:

At www.beyondbooks.com, you can try out the web-based general curriculum resources that were given the Diamond Award from Curriculum Administrator Magazine this past January.  Password is (use for both username and password; must be capital letters) BBFREE406    The password is valid until April 6.

Aside from original content designed for student use, Beyond Books puts great Internet links into a curriculum context.  Each program accesses (having reviewed and rated them) anywhere from 350 to 700 Internet links.  Most of the graphics are links and there is also a links page for every "focus" (subchapter) area.

In Earth Science 1, check out the Watershed game (area 3e) where players can make executive decisions about your neighborhood, national park, city and agricultural lands.  Examine the consequences of your actions...did your choices ensure a healthy watershed?

Again ES 1, area 4b, great stuff on this PBS site on waves, including a Wave Machine, where you can control the factors to create your own waves.

In Earth Science 2, check out 10c, there is a terrific interactive tableau of the Grand Canyon, which goes through its geological periods.

In ES 2, 3c, there's a simulation (Do It Yourself on the left hand side of the page) where you can check out P waves and S waves.

In Physical Science 2, Introduction to Chemistry, check out the Periodic Table games in section 2f.

How about some history of science and religion?  Check out Early Modern Europe section 9 The Scientific Revolution, focus b, Galileo and the Church.

It's free, until April 6.  And the sample chapters on the Live Tour (includes future programs; the Intro to Physics has a sample on Newton's Laws) are free all the time.

Enjoy.
