March 5: Panel‹ "Dispelling Charter School Myths"

Leadership for Quality Education and the Harris School of Public Policy at
the University of Chicago sponsor an overview of charter schools. School

March 9: Nonprofit Leadership Day‹Executive Service Corps

Nonprofit board members, executive directors and senior staff are encouraged
to attend the Executive Service Corps fourth annual Nonprofit Leadership Day
Conference. The event will highlight strategies for leading and promoting an
effective nonprofit organization. Held at Chicago Hilton and Towers, 720 S.

March 10: CATALYST on the Air: City Voices

Managing Editor Veronica Anderson hosts the education edition of "City

March 13: PTA Advisory Committee Monthly Meeting

Representatives of the Chicago Region PTA, who advise the Board of Education
and CEO Paul Vallas on matters of policy. Open to the public. At the Board

March 14: Discussion‹ Parent Involvement

The Chicago Panel on School Policy sponsors this discussion on

March 15: NEA Innovation Grants Deadline

That National Education Association Foundation will award up to 200 grants
of $2,000 each to small teams of educators who design and implement
innovative approaches that lead to student achievement of high standards.

March 15: Marshall Field's Project Imagine Scholarship Deadline

The Marshall Field's Project Imagine Scholarship awards $1,000 scholarships

March 17: Chicago Assistant Principals Association Recognition Luncheon

Theme: "Children First." Mary Mitchell, Sun-Times columnist and editorial

Forest Preserve District of Cook County Sand Ridge Nature Center

Grants and Awards for Students

Ghandi-King Peace Essay Contest

The Celebration of Peace essay contest is a national competition open to all
high school students. Students are asked to describe how their community
involvement relates to Ghandi and King's shared philosophy of non-violence.
Sponsored by the Dharma Foundation, Indo-American Center, Center for Asian
Arts and Columbia College. Guidelines and more info are available at

Illinois State Representative Constance Howard Scholarship Fund

The State Rep. Constance Howard 32nd District Scholarship Fund supports
residents of the 32nd district who are pursuing a postsecondary degree in
the field of technology. Scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $2,500 will be
awarded to full-time students at an accredited four-year college.

Director of Development‹Project Impact

Project Impact is a new initiative that seeks to improve academic
achievement among Latino youth in Illinois. The director of development will
be responsible for building upon the start-up funding of this new project.
Duties: establish and maintain key relationships with funders; research and
identify possible funding sources; work closely with marketing and
communications director to develop materials for potential donors.
Qualifications: BA/BS degree; 3-5 years demonstrated fund development
experience; some background in corporate/government relations and/or
marketing/sales; expertise in hands-on planning and implementation of fund

Rochelle Lee Fund (two positions)

Program Director‹Organizes and administers professional development program
for CPS teachers in broad use of literature. Must have passion for reading,

major preferred. Must have experience in teaching and program management.

Program/Development Officer‹Citizens Information Service of Illinois

Part-time program/development officer needed to implement Future Voter, a

experience working with community-based organizations, strong writing and
