This is a heads-up announcement to Chicago Public School teachers and
department chairs.
Rita Nelson and I have been working on the issue of getting unwanted
chemicals out of the schools. I am happy to report that it is finally going
to happen. What disturbs me is the fact that so few schools have responded
to our request to participate in this program. Staff from Risk Management
spoke at principal meetings and I am confident that many of your principals
have simply forgotten to send the paperwork in. I would like you to know
that if your school does not take advantage of this opportunity now, your
school will have to pay to have this work done later. Risk Management is
going to pay the bills if you sign up now. Below are the schools that I know
have signed up to participate. If your school is not on the list, please ask
your principal about it.
If your school is not on the list below now is the time to act:
Arai
Austin
Dunbar
M. Clark
Doolittle Intermediate
Lake View
Lane
Senn
Avalon Park
Bennett
Bouchet
Collins
Crane
Curie
Dett
Disney
Healy
Kanon
Kelly

Kelvyn Park

I understand that Risk Management intends to send a letter to the department
chairs. This is a warning in advance of that letter. While the science
department chemicals have a priority, they will also remove chemicals from
the engineer, art department, and shops. Please alert those folks too.
Thanks for passing the word. This project is going to cost in excess of $1M
and I want it to be successful so that schools are safer places to work.
Take advantage of this opportunity NOW. If you would like me to FAX the
paperwork to you (in case your principal can't find their copy), please
respond and send FAX number.
Spring is coming! The tulips and other bulbs are breaking through the ground
here at Medill.
Spring is sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where the birdies is?
