Marty's suggestions should be well heeded. He knows what he is talking

I take great devilish pleasure to go from booth-to-booth at NSTA and ask the
textbook publishers for the research that supports their pedagogical
approach and materials. Most refer me to someone in the marketing department
that won't return phone calls.

The NSF developed materials usually have a strong research base behind them.
