DO YOU KNOW AN INNOVATIVE TEACHER? National Semiconductor's Internet Innovator Awards program rewards teachers who are using the Internet in fresh, new ways in the classroom to improve student learning. The Internet Innovator Awards, offered in partnership with the 21st Century Teachers Network, are given to teachers who have implemented Internet-rich curricula that have proven successful in the K-12 classroom. Winning teachers receive $10,000 personal awards-- no strings attached-- and their schools win between $15,000 and $20,000 to fund teacher training and development in the use and integration of Internet technology in education. In addition to the cash award, all of the winning schools receive a Global Connections training course valued at $3,500. K-12 teachers in public and non-profit independent schools located in the United States are eligible. Classroom teachers, as well as resource teachers (librarians and media specialists), are eligible. Individual teachers and groups of teachers may apply. Groups of teachers may have up to three members and represent up to three schools. Fourteen awards will be given in the fall of 2001. The application process for the Awards is entirely online. Eligible teachers may access the application from the Awards web site at www.nsawards.com. In the site they will find detailed instructions for navigating through the site and helpful tips for completing the application. Please note that applications require both the applicants and their principals to complete questions. All applications will be judged by an independent panel of experts in the field of instructional technology. Completed applications must be submitted through the Awards web site, www.nsawards.com, by Friday, June 22, 2001. Winners will be announced and awards will be distributed to winning teachers and their schools in October, 2001. Wade D.
