"The Human Genome Project: Progress, Problems and Prospects"

Saturday, April 14, 9 AM - 12:30 PM
Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, Evanston Campus

A Northwestern University Sesquicentennial Event

Addressed to the layperson, and requiring no technical background, this
conference will address such questions as:

**What exactly is a genome?
**Will information derived from the Human Genome Project present
opportunities in the near term for diagnosis and treatment of genetic
disorders?
**Will genetic profiles of large numbers of people be on record, as
fingerprints are?
**If so, who will have access to this information?
**Can a person's genetic profile affect job security or insurability?
**What does it mean to have a patent on a human gene?
**Will the new information make it possible to clone humans?

The conference's distinguished panel of speakers include faculty from
Princeton, Duke, the University of California (San Francisco),
Chicago-Kent, and Northwestern.
