? July 30 - August 3, 2001 -Southern Illinois University (SIUE), 
Edwardsville, IL

WHAT IS IT?
? In-depth professional development sessions
? Direct hands-on experiences with water/stream/river study.
? Activity sessions led by area teachers who have worked with river study
? Opportunities to utilize latest scientific apparatus
? Sharing of ideas, materials and strategies associated with science 
standards

WHO SHOULD COME?
? Teachers who want to involve their students in water/stream/river study.

WHAT CONCEPTS/SKILLS/TOPICS ARE OFFERED?
? Rivers Curriculum has been developed in six areas--chemistry, biology, 
earth science, geography, mathematics, and language arts. Participants 
will develop skills in each of these content areas, as well as, the 
interdisciplinary nature of water/stream/river study.

WHAT WILL YOU RECEIVE?
? You will be trained in the interdisciplinary Rivers Project curriculum 
that allows you to concentrate in one content area but to be crossed 
trained in all. Fieldwork will be an important portion of the 
activities. Elementary teachers will receive a good enough knowledge of 
the riverine habitat that they should be able to develop curriculum for 
younger children.
? graduate credit ($106.85 per credit hour, $25.00 registration fee and 
$72.00 Student fees totally $285.70 for 2 semester hours of credit)

IS HOUING AVAILABLE?
? Housing is available in the dorms at SIUE at $24.00 a night double 
occupancy or $33.00 a night for a single.
? Hotel rooms will be reserved for the Chicago area.
