Of course we need both. I brought up the subject because most principals
prioritize textbooks over equipment, and to encourage teachers to be
creative with their budgeting and planning. In many schools, it's a very
real tradeoff, and I know it was difficult for me to convince my principal
otherwise.

Another post reminded me that many parents expect to see a textbook--they
relate that to the amount of homework. If you don't have books for all your
students, be sure that parents know how their child is to do their science
homework.
