This is a message below is from our friends over at the EPA. Also know that
we are working on setting up a training for this topic for CPS High School
teachers for Feb. 2 at Medill. More than likely Flinn will conduct the
training with emphasis on developing the Chemical Hygiene Plan that is
required by law.

Also -- the Guidebook for Science Safety in Illinois is available on the ISBE
Website at <www.isbe.net>. If you do not have a copy, you should download
it. Several years ago a copy was given to every school and to every teacher
who asked for one. I have completely exhausted my supply and have only my
archival copy left. Could be an assignment given to one of your kids for
extra credit. It is many pages.

Now, here is Maryann's message:

As the new school year begins, you may feel the need to brush up on your
laboratory safety skills. There is an on-line course available through the
Howard Hughes Medical Institute, in Maryland and Yale University Center for
Advanced Instructional Media.

I'm not endorsing it, I'm just letting you know it's an available resource.
I've scrolled through some of it and it appears to be very complete.

On-Line Laboratory Safety Course

You can access the whole training course through the "Colleagues and
Visitors" button. It includes sections on Emergency Response, Chemical
Safety and Managing Hazardous Wastes. It's very comprehensive, but if you
want, you can select individual sections that you're interested in.

health and safety but does not represent EPA endorsement of this
