For CPS teachers: All CPS teachers will have one third of their tuition covered by an Eisenhower grant, so that the teacher’s part of the tuition will be 395$. CPS teachers who do not have math endorsement will have an additional one third of their tuition paid by an NSF grant, so that the teacher’s part of the tuition will be $197. For CPS teachers in the Math and Science Magnet Cluster schools: Professional development funds available for teachers in Math and Science Magnet Cluster schools of Chicago Public Schools can be used to pay for the teacher’s share of the tuition. Please ask your principal about using the program funds allocated to your school to pay for this course. CONTACT Yoram Sagher 312-413-2163 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This course will be centered on the following mathematics topics: · Symmetries · Area, perimeter, and volume · Plane and solid figures and their properties · Developing visualization skills The participants will study Geometry as presented in the Singapore curriculum, following the strands across grade levels. The Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the repeat study (TIMSS-R) both placed Singapore students at the top of international comparisons of performance by elementary school students. This course is designed to enhance and deepen the mathematics skills of the experienced elementary/junior high/middle school teacher. Using the highly successful curriculum of the Singapore schools as a foundation, the teachers will be able to analyze the content used in the Singapore schools and develop appropriate materials to support their own teaching. Participation by teachers from all grade levels is encouraged. This course may be applicable to the 6th - 8th grade State of Illinois Mathematics Endorsement and may carry program degree credit for the University of Illinois at Chicago Master of Science in the Teaching of Mathematics- Elementary Option degree. -- This is the CPS Science Teacher List.
