Hello High School Biology Teachers,
In a previous message, I described a biotechnology course that I will
be offering for CPS high school teachers this fall. My message
stated that teachers must sign up for Lane Promotional Credit. I
have recently been informed that teachers who do not wish to get Lane
credit could attend the course to exclusively receive CEUs from the
ISBE (our program is an approved provider). These teachers would not
need to register through Teachers Academy, but MUST contact me prior
to the first class to check if there is room in the class (enrollment
is limited to 26). Brief details regarding the class are noted below.

The course, entitled "Bringing Biotechnology to Your High School
Classroom", will be held on three Saturdays, Sept. 22, Oct. 20, and
Nov. 17 from 8:00am - 1:00pm at Whitney Young High School. The
course will feature hands-on laboratory activities appropriate for
high school classes. Laboratories will include DNA extraction,
antibiotic screening of bacteria, transformation of bacteria, and
analysis of DNA using agarose gel electrophoresis. Teachers who
successfully complete the course will receive 3 CEUs.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the course.

Peace,
Carolyn Zanta
