Amazon Connections: Integrated Sciences of the Rainforest
November 1, 6:30-9:30pm
November 3, 9am-4pm
November 10, 9am-4pm

With the award-winning Amazon Rising exhibit as a backdrop, investigate the
connections among the forest, the people and the life-giving waters of the
Amazon River. In this class you will: discover how geography, climate, and
geology impact the balance of this intricate ecosystem; apply scientific
methodology; discuss issues concerning rainforest conservation with experts;
and evaluate pressures on river ecosystems.

Teachers will also have the opportunity to develop engaged-learning
activities that connect to state learning standards and lead student
inquiry. Techniques for teaching and assessing rainforest ecology concepts
will be presented and demonstrated while making curricular links to reading,
