With the award-winning Amazon Rising exhibit as a backdrop, investigate the connections among the forest, the people and the life-giving waters of the Amazon River. In this class you will: discover how geography, climate, and geology impact the balance of this intricate ecosystem; apply scientific methodology; discuss issues concerning rainforest conservation with experts; and evaluate pressures on river ecosystems. Teachers will also have the opportunity to develop engaged-learning activities that connect to state learning standards and lead student inquiry. Techniques for teaching and assessing rainforest ecology concepts will be presented and demonstrated while making curricular links to reading, writing and math.
