I have:

1. A mail and imap server installed on one machine with SL 6.5.

2. A secure web server (https) running Squirrelmail on a different machine,
originally with SL 5.9, and recently updated to SL 6.5.

Users use Squirrelmail on the secure webserver to access their email on the
mail/imap server.

Everything was fine until the update. I am using the same configuration for
Squirrelmail I had before, but after the update Squirrelmail behaves very
strangely - the most noticeable thing is that users are able to read their
emails, but the programs hangs after sending email (the email gets sent but the
browser remains frozen apparently waiting for a response from the secure
server, the only solution is to close the browser and login to Squirrelmail
again). I am using Firefox ESR 24.7.0 in my tests, but the problem seems to be
browser independent.

Nothing has changed on the mail/imap server, and users using other means to
access their emails are unaffected, the problem seems to be confined to the
version of Squirrelmail that got installed with SL 6.5. Except for the SL
version update everything is also the same on the secure server - firewall
settings, certificates, etc.

My questions:

1. Any suggestions about solutions or where to look for a solution?

I'm using squirrelmail on 6.5 fine, but it's running on the mail server and using the default /usr/sbin/sendmail configuration to send mail. If the web server can hand mail off to the mail server via sendmail, you might try that.

Anything in the httpd error logs? SELinux?

2. Any good alternatives to Squirrelmail? - Roundcube, Horde...?

We also use roundcube here. Seems nice.
