I have an ancient HP SCSI scanner (from 1996 or so). If 300DPI hardware scan is sufficient, it's excellent. A bit slow, but great scans. The foam under the lid recently disintegrated; I need to decide whether to refurb or get something that does 600DPI (which I occasionally need).

Nothing fancy, but rock solid. Has worked with SANE forever.
