I installed 1.0.2 (which is the last of 1.0.x series) from Centos 4.4 Extras repository and it works pretty well. I will stick with it. Perhaps it may become part of SL 4.

Yes, that version of yumex is scheduled to be in S.L. 4.5.
You can't use any newer versions (that I know of) because it starts using yum 3.0 and above, which can't go onto S.L. 4.x without serious restructuring.
