I did a base install of SL5 and found it was somewhat of a challenge
to build the programs I wanted in their newest version. For the time
being, I'm concentrating on the x86_64 platform, and then if I decide
to stay with SL on all systems, I'll have i386 available. I don't
have this setup as a yum repository because my host, Dreamhost.com, is
a Debian shop, and they don't have the rpm repository tools installed.

I thought I saw createrepo packaged for Debian. Even if not, it shouldn't be any harder to create the repo then copy the rpms plus metadata than doing the tasks in the reverse order.
