Hi Jan,
I don't know if I'm the right person to answer your question, but I'm
running the x86_64 version of SL 5 on a dual core Opteron. I always
upgrade the kernel to the latest version available on kernel.org (and
compile it myself) When I checked my kernel source out today, it
indicated that it could be customized for your xeon processors. I have
a "personal computer" using a server motherboard and the Opteron.
Hope this helps.

Excuses if I sent a previous email on that subject not to the list or

We will be receiving a 64bit server with two Intel Xeons E5365 (3GHz)
and 32 GB of RAM soon and I would like to run a 64bit OS, preferably
SL on it.
Anyone of CERN here on list list who could give recommendations
as I know that some machines at CERN run a 64 bit OS.
You may be pushing things a bit beyond our experience in CERN-IT - but
we have 2x E5345s at 16GB on SLC4/x86_64 over here. Obviously the
experiments get all the interesting stuff.. ;-)
