The scientific linux folk I guess. Check the website. If it's not an SL-specific problem (I'm sure it's not), they can refer it upstream, presumably RH.

You could probably do it there yourself, https//bugzilla.redhat.com/ & report against the equivalent RHEL release, and mention in the description that it's actually scientific linux. I imagine they'll check it out, but not try very hard if they can't reproduce it:-)

Well, gnu "partition magic" cd (gnupartd) was able to format the
partition
this afternoon.  Not really sure why gui utility would work while the
command line equivalent failed.

Oh well.
