This behavior comes from upstream vendor.
In fact the blame sould not go on ant, which is a kind of
"make", but on the tool suppliyng the "build.xml" configuration
file which should check the presence of xml-commons-apis
before calling ant.
I don't mean to blame anyone.
I mean to get this problem fixed.
Could you point me to a responsible party, who could fix the problem?
The responsible party could be said to be Sun as their jdk-1.5.0_xx
package says that it provides xml-commons-apis and really doesn't. SL
provides the java environment in a different packaging configuration as
compared to RHEL. This does cause some compatibility issues, at times.
Thanks!

Jean-Paul,
Installing the xml-commons-apis makes the symptom go away.
It is poor however, for one package to report errors in this way
when another independent package is not installed.
If it is not a Scientific Linux issue, whose issue is it?
Cheers!

Hi,
You just have to install the xml-commons-apis package.
(yum install xml-commons-apis)

Hi,
The ant 1.6.5 package in SL 5 appears to be misconfigured.
