Thanks, it seems then that I am unpacking the source rpm correctly,
according to these helpful instructions,
and getting a good build tree.
But I do not wish to build an RPM for my kernel; I want to compile and
install it with make as I do my other kernels,
which works fine except that it calls it 'xen' for some reason.
Oh, I have an idea...I'll build an RPM kernel & see if it calls it 'xen',
too : )
Thanks Yagi :)

hi,
Is there some special way to setup the kernel source tree when building
from
an rpm?
You can find detailed procedures on the CentOS wiki.
First, here is how to set up the kernel source tree:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/I_need_the_Kernel_Source
Then, this covers how to build the kernel:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel
After following the instructions, if you still have questions or there
are things that are not clear, please post them here. That will help
improve the wiki articles which, I believe, should be beneficial for
both CentOS and Scientific Linux users.
