Yep ummount /scratch.
Will it let you do that? Make sure nobody is trying to use it. You may need
to umount -l /scratch.
Hi Brian, Still doing it when using: umount -l /scratch
Rachid.

try unmounting and remounting /tmp
umount /tmp
mount /tmp
You mean umount /scratch
check in your /etc/fstab to see if it is set for read-only.
In /etc/fstab I have:
/dev/hdb1 /scratch ext3 rw,auto,user 0 0

Hello, I have really problem to change, recursively, the owner status
of a mounted disk in SL5:
chown -R ayad:ayad /scratch
where I have messages like:
*********
chown: changing ownership of
`/scratch/ba220-jul-20-2008/ayad/comedi/comedi/comedi/old/CVS/Template':
Read-only file system
***********
even if I am executing the chown command from root.
Regards, rachid ayad.
