This is the second USB problem that we've heard dealing with this kernel. There is a brand new bugfix kernel out today that said it deals with a USB bug.

"* USB devices would not be detected on a PowerEdge R805 system. USB devices
are now able to be detected on the aforementioned system with this update."

I'm wondering if it is more than the Poweredge systems having a problem.
I'm still rebuilding that kernel, but I will put it up into the testing area when it's done so you can see if it helps or not.

Hello,

I found out that the usb 2.0 support is broken in kernel 2.6.9-78 (smp version).

If I insert an usb stick I get this in /var/log/messages:
Aug 4 10:14:25 lxcip59 kernel: usb 1-7: new high speed USB device using address 4 Aug 4 10:14:25 lxcip59 kernel: usb 1-7: device not accepting address 4, error -71 Aug 4 10:14:25 lxcip59 kernel: usb 1-7: new high speed USB device using address 5 Aug 4 10:14:26 lxcip59 kernel: usb 1-7: device not accepting address 5, error -71

If I remove the kernel module "ehci_hcd". I can insert the stick, but it is only "full speed" and not "high speed": Aug 5 16:51:13 lxcip59 kernel: usb 2-7: new full speed USB device using address 4 Aug 5 16:51:13 lxcip59 kernel: scsi4 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices Aug 5 16:51:13 lxcip59 kernel: Vendor: Model: USB FLASH DRIVE Rev: 34CE Aug 5 16:51:13 lxcip59 kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Aug 5 16:51:13 lxcip59 kernel: SCSI device sdb: 2015232 512-byte hdwr sectors (1032 MB)

If I go back to kernel-smp-2.6.9-67.0.22.EL.i686.rpm the problem with ehci_hcd is gone.

Best regards,
  Andreas
