Hi, I run Scientific Linux 5.2 with kernel 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5 on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Si 1520. I have the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 ABG card. I noticed that the original installed configuration came with mac80211 and support for iwl4965, but it seemed to have nothing for 3945.
# lsmod | grep iwl iwl4965 105921 0 mac80211 117453 1 iwl4965 compat 7617 2 iwl4965,mac80211 So I followed the instructions here: http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/?p=iwlwifi&n=howto-iwlwifi to install the iwl driver for 3945, but when it came time to compile iwlwifi-1.2.25, which I tried as root, I got a lot of errors. After that I installed the older dkms-ipw3945 using yum following the instructions at: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless?highlight=(3945) but it too didn't work with the following symptoms. The wireless appears to see that there is a network around, but doesn't manage to connect to it if I run NetworkManager and select the wireless network. # iwlist eth1 scan eth1 Scan completed : Cell 01 - Address: 00:1A:6C:3C:47:F0 ESSID:"resfac" Protocol:IEEE 802.11bg Mode:Master Channel:8 Encryption key:off Bit Rates:1 Mb/s; 2 Mb/s; 5.5 Mb/s; 6 Mb/s; 9 Mb/s 11 Mb/s; 12 Mb/s; 18 Mb/s; 24 Mb/s; 36 Mb/s 48 Mb/s; 54 Mb/s Quality=38/100 Signal level=-86 dBm Noise level=-86 dBm Extra: Last beacon: 198ms ago I'm not sure if it's relevant but if I boot up with wireless on and the ethernet plugged in I get a whole bunch of "hub 1-0:1.0: connect-debounce failed, port 6 disabled" in the dmesg. This doesn't happen with when the ethernet is unplugged but the wireless doesn't work then either. I would be very grateful if someone would suggest a way forward.
