Hi everybody,
I'm going to start installing S.L. 5.2 i386 on my PC and I would like to know
if I have the possibility to choose the part of the disk where to install
linux.
I mean I have a part of external disk connected with USB port where I have
about 100 Gb free ( no primary or extended partion nor logical unit ).
Actually my O.S. is Microsoft Xp and on my hard disk I've lots of data and I
wouldn't like to loose them.
Thanks for any help and sorry for my english but I'm italian.

Hi,
Yes, you can certainly tell it where to install Scientific Linux. even it that
disk is a USB disk. Instructions are here
https://www.scientificlinux.org/distributions/5x/installing/sl52/en/installan.html
At the disk paritioning, you can have it only install on unused, or other linux
partitions. Or even do "Create custom layout". I usually choose create custom
layout so that I know exactly where everything is going.
