  Check the permissions on the sound devices (alsa uses /dev/snd/*).
  I normally create a group "audio", insure that all users requiring
  sound access have been added to the group, the modify
  /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules to have the sound devices created
  using mode 0660 and group "audio".
