Hello,
I'm a little surprised that I haven't heard anything about the java plugin for firefox 3.6.

From the articles I've read, it looks like firefox 3.6 and above only works with the newer java plugin libnpjp2.so (not the older libjavaplugin_oji.so)

I discovered that too, but have had no problems with java since
I put in a sym link to the new plugin.
It turns out that the new plugin works with firefox 3.0.19 too
- pity we didn't discover this issue earlier.

Because of this, I'm updating java-1.6.0-sun-compat to put the new plugin where firefox can get it. It should be in testing today.

My question is this.
Does anyone know of a way for firefox 3.6 to use the old plugin, incase some users need to use the old plugin?

Sorry no. Given that 3.0.19 supports the new plugin
we may be passed the compatibility overlap :-(

Fedora 13 (updates) has an IcedTeaPlugin.so in
java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin-1.6.0.0-41.b18.fc13.i686.rpm - the
postinstall script does
 alternatives \
  --install /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so libjavaplugin.so \
  /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk/lib/i386/IcedTeaPlugin.so 16000

.. but the Red Hat 5 build of java-1.6.0-openjdk doesn't include
java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin, otherwise I would have suggested
1) switching to OpenJDK
2) making java-1.6.0-sun-compat work the same way
