Hi there,
I've got a fresh install of SL5.5, and would like to set it up to use
the "5x" repositories, whatever they are (or, to be more precise, I want
this machine to receive updates from new releases as they come, and I
think that replacing yum's conf files is the way to go). The most
straightforward way is, I guess, replacing the yum-conf-55 package with
yum-conf-5x. However, yum won't allow me to do that:
# yum -y --skip-broken install yum-conf-5x
...
Transaction Check Error:
file /etc/yum.conf from install of yum-conf-5x-1-9.SL.noarch
conflicts with file from package yum-conf-55-1.SL.noarch
People at #rhel on Freenode suggested that this is an error in the
yum-conf-5x package which does not use the "obsoletes" feature of YUM.
So, what shall I do in this case?
With kind regards,
Jan
rpm -e --nodeps yum-conf
rpm -Uvh

This has been fixed in SL6.0, but we're still trying to figure out a
better way for SL5. For now, you have to manually remove the one and
add the other.
