Hello Everyone,
I've rebuild Xfce 4.6 from the Fedora Core 14 source rpm (for 32 bits), and I would like to warn you about a very annoying problem. Xfce 4.6 makes the default X server crash on AMD (formerly ATI) graphics cards. As I have understand it (thanks Google), this is related to fully transparent png pixmaps present in most of the themes which made the server choke. It seems to be a bug of the X server, not Xfce. Note that the default theme works, but as soon as you switch to another, you crash... And you will not be able to reconnect until you change of desktop or remove the .config in your home directory (theme reset). On recent radeon card, you may switch to the proprietary driver "fglrx" avalaible in the ELrepo repository. In older cards unsupported by "fglxr" you may fully disable hardware acceleration. (Option "NoAccel" "True" in xorg.conf) I've also tried my luck with Xfce 4.8, which suffer the same bug. I've stick with 4.6 because my favorite theme "Elegant Brit" is no longer rendered correctly (white background instead of black in the notification area and some other very visible places). Hope this helps.
