Thanks! I installed the EPEL package of numpy 1.3 and scipy 0.7.2. Although
not the latest, they are certainly good enough to get a lot done – no need to
futz with compiling etc. If they keep working on updating, then that is a nice
straightforward path.
Cheers,
Souheil

Subject: Re: SL6 - Numpy/SciPy/Matplotlib

I had replied privately, but I think it would be more useful to reply to the
list. I also made an error in the private reply, which is now corrected.

There is an EPEL package for scipy which has now been moved to stable
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/scipy-0.7.2-5.el6

but it does not exist in official RHEL repos:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=697530
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=688636

Here is me reporting being able to compile scipy 0.7.1 on my system, using the
stock old version of numpy from RHEL:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg07503.html

The scipy test is currently running, but it seems to work properly. Numpy and
Matplotlib are available from the official RHEL repos.

Unfortunately all of these are relatively old versions, hopefully RHEL will
eventually upgrade their version of numpy so that the EPEL repos can include a
newer scipy.
