Thanks! I installed the EPEL package of numpy 1.3 and scipy 0.7.2. Although not the latest, they are certainly good enough to get a lot done – no need to futz with compiling etc. If they keep working on updating, then that is a nice straightforward path. Cheers, Souheil

Numpy and Matplotlib are available from the official RHEL repos. Unfortunately all of these are relatively old versions, hopefully RHEL will eventually upgrade their version of numpy so that the EPEL repos can include a newer scipy.
