Betreff: anyone get nvidia-x11-drv to work under 6.2_x64?

Hi All,

After the upgrade from hell (6.1 --> 6.2) and not being
able to start X11, I found the following:

The nvidia drivers (kmod-nvidia, nvidia-x11-drv) failed to
open my display. So, I had to revert to the Nouveau
(xorg-x11-drv-nouveau) drivers. Which, of course, I
had to install the hard way.

Has anyone got

kmod-nvidia-295.20-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm
nvidia-x11-drv-295.20-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm
nvidia-x11-drv-32bit-295.20-1.el6.elrepo.x86_64.rpm

to work on SL6.2 x64 successfully? And, if so, what/how did
you do it?

Many thanks,
-T

Looking at that seems a bit scary. There are a lot of modifications and
steps to take. This seems a bit weird as nvidia-x11-drv worked
fine under SL 6.1. But, maybe I will get brave.

Thank you!

I successfully have built and am running the Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia package; this is necessary to run the CUDA 4 environment for Tesla GPUs from Nvidia, an environment that does not seem to be compatible with the nouveau package that I have had to disable. Note that I did not use any EL 6 distribution repository, but the actual package from Nvidia (that may "taint the kernel" in that it may contain non-GPL source). I would present a screen shot that contains specific versions, etc., to this list, but evidently MIME attachments are not allowed. I am running SL 6x, and thus presumably have the latest updates. Note that this is not with the stock SL 6x kernel, but with a later 2.6 version (currently on this workstation: 2.6.38.8-32.el6.x86_64).
