Maybe you deleted something important from /var/lib/rpm/. If it was
your mistake, and not a bad disk or something done by a malicious
outsider, it could help to do 'rpm --rebuilddb' and/or 'rpm --initdb'.

You may want to remove and re-add the SL signing key. It seems
something is wonky with your rpm gpg keyring. There are instructions on
this within the rpm man page.

I've deleted and reimported the gpg keys, but something very scary has happened
to this machine.
