It helps to do mass updates by first updating the package groups you have installed one at a time.

With that many packages, I suspect you hadn't updated in quite a
while, and it's conceivable with 500 packages that you overwhelmed
your available disk space. Deifinitely try the sl-release package
first, then glibc, then work your way down the list of updates a few
at a time to reduce the risks.
