Received a gvfs-1.4.3-16 patch from Red Hat that fixes it from the GIO
side.
I have that version of gvfs but its date is given as Aug 2012. Is a
patched rebuild likely?

I cannot speak to the fix, but gvfs-1.4.3-16.el6_5 was published as an
SL 6.5 fastbug back in June.
