Well, I'm currently reading Finity's End by CJ Cherryh.
Nearly finished... have about 100 pages left (out of about 550 pages :))
In this one she seems to have gone into greater detail than in the previous
"Merchanter" books, this is the third... it includes a lot of the politics
of the Alliance/Union system she set her stories in... mostly from the
Alliance side of things :)
I recently read Cyteen... that showed a lot of the politics from the Union
side of things... as well as further down the timeline...
Both are recommended reading for any fans of Cherryh! :)
If you haven't read her before... I'd suggest starting with one of her
earlier works... Hunter of Worlds... and if you like that, then try the
Faded Sun trilogy.... she manages to set up some very believable aliens in
both sets.... Her "Chanur" series is a lot of fun... again from an alien
perspective with only minimal "human" involvement.
