I'm desperate to find a copy of an animated version of "A Christmas Carol". It
was released in 1971, produced by animation legend Chuck Jones, directed by
Richard Williams. Alastair Sim--whose live-action 1951 film is widely regarded
as the best version of Dickens' classic tale--reprises his role as the voice of
Scrooge in this animation. This carton is only half an hour long but it is
great! It is scary--that's right, scary--as hell. The ghost of Jacob Marley is
worth the cost alone. Ever seen it? It was created for TV, but so well
received that it was later released in theatres, where it earned an Oscar for
best animated short. I spent hours searching the web, and am now in a bidding
war on eBay, where copies of this thing have commanded prices as high as sixty
bucks! I found three owners via Amazon, but they want well over one hundred
bucks for their copies!

Back in Texas in the '70s (this may have been a national thing) on Saturdays
there was a show called something like "Cartoon Classics" or "Animated
Masterpieces" or something like that. It showed animated versions of classics
such as "The Count of Monte Cristo", "Robinson Crusoe", "The Three Musketeers",
"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". I'm sure there were many others, but I barely
remember it. I remember all the animation as being very spare and basic.
Anyway, this Christmas Carol was shown on that program. It made such an
impression on me that I've recalled it for years. The sounds, the
animation--wow! Check out some screen shots from this site, which lists mosts
of the best-known versions of the tale.

Anyone have or know of where I can buy either the original, a good copy, or a
DVD transfer for a resonable price, say, around twenty-five bucks?
