Until I worked for Bluebyte, I never really played computer games. I have
played very little since I left. I'm not much of a gamer. I probably could but
that's a saturated market here in Austin.

Thanks for the good luck wishes. It's cool that you worked at a game company
like that. Did you look into becoming a game tester or anything?

Good luck in the search.

I worked at a German Company called Bluebyte Software. They were never big here
in the states. The owner wanted to break in the US market but never really
succeded. They had an Austin Office when he moved here. He sold the company to
Ubisoft about two months after I left. They mostly made turnbased and real time
strategy games. The most famous was the Settlers Series but even that wasn't
popular here. Microsoft's Age Of Empires took a lot of cues from this one.

I ran the english speaking tech support department. it was fun but wanted to
move more in to networking and they weren't able to accomodate that. I got go
to E3 and demo games for Journalists and buyers. I got a couple of credits in
games like Settlers 4, Battle Isle Andosia War and Stephen King's F13. it was a
cool experience.

You live in Austin, correct? A good friend of mine lives in Austin. He's a
triathlete and big in that scene, used to work at a store called "Run Tek" (or
something like that) that's frequented by a lot of athletes in Austin. What was
the deal with the computer gaming company? What'd you do there?

Good luck on the career path. I too am unemployed after a decade of being a
network administrator at my company, which got me in the latest round of
layoffs. I'm looking also at my next road, which will for practicality sake
still probably be in IT, but which I'd like to be more fulfilling and less time
consuming (I worked overtime all the time, but was on salary so didn't really
get paid for it).  biggest thing for me now is to pursue my real loves and to
hopefully find a career that either  fulfills them--or is less of a soul drain,
so that I have the energy in my off hours to pursue those loves.

My adult career path has been pretty cool. I worked in the music biz for about
15 years. Then I worked for a computer game company. Then I sold skateboards. I
am currently unemployed after running a skateboard shop for 2 years.

I don't know what's next but I am considering getting a degree. I've never had
one. it could be interesting to give that a shot.

Wow, that's an interesting past. I guess I can see why you're burned out a bit.

I worked in the music business for many years. Spent a lot of time in crowds
seeing bands and going to music business events. I've calculated seeing some
where in the neighborhood of 5000 plus bands/shows in my life. I've had my fill
of being in rooms full of people.

Really? Why is that? I haven't seen a change in my love of crowds. But then,
i'm a high extrovert, according to three Meyers-Briggs tests, so no surprise
there. The whole experience pumps me up, just being there with me and my couple
of hundred closest friends!

I'm not crowd friendly and get less so as I get older.

Well, I'm almost always there for opening weekends for scifi flicks, so I will
definitely be there!

Has a cover story about the JJ Abrams Star Trek Film. Lots of pics and
interview material. I've gotta say that if they EW Hype is 50% accurate, it
looks like the new movie will be kill kill. I don't hit much on an opening
weekend but I am planning in advance to be there for this one.
