One of the things I learned about him was how much he did to undermine gay rights. A segment of Dateline NBC a few years ago focused on a lesbian couple in Cali who were lobbying for same-sex marriage rights. In it, one of them led Stone Phillips to the refrigerator, where they had a bottle of really expensive bottle of bubbly. They said, straight-faced, tha they were saving it for the day Reagan died, to toast "good riddance". Still rattles me, that.
