Ah! Being an intellectual is just as cool as being well-dressed! A 
bestseller in the pocket!  The newest accessories! Don't you just 
love society and the posing that goes on?

Now while it's nice to have the bestseller and make the tons o' 
bucks, I'm sure the authors actually get a bit of a thrill to see 
that someone has actually read their books.  

Maybe in this world of sound bites, the "idea" behind a story is as 
important as the story itself. Who needs to read all of the Da Vinci 
Code, for instance, if everyone knows that it debunks Jesus' 
celibacy? Who needs to read "How Stella got her groove back?" if we 
all know that walking around with the book shows we undrestand 
women's pain and the passion of a young male rejuvenating us with his 
wild youthful lust?

Ah, Oprah -- and book blurbs! Made for non-reading times such as
