I'm not a contributor, but +1 for the drop of 2.5 compatibility

one important point for dropping 2.5: it's far easier to port a
project to python 3 if you only have to support 2.6/2.7 than if you
need to also support 2.5.  I'm not sure what the plans regarding py3
are for skl, but it's probably a good idea to start getting the ground
ready for that to at least be possible/easier.   Dropping 2.5 support
is pretty much the first step on that path.
