Just curious what this is, and whether it might not be known under
other names in other fields, I found this

HMM”, “HMM with explicit duration”, “hidden semi-Markov model”,
generalized HMM, segmental HMM and segment model in the literature,
depending on their assumptions and their application areas."

However, I have no idea what the different versions or assumptions are.
