Hi David,

Thanks for the update. I think that it is perfectly natural to take the
better job offer if it comes early in the summer. You did the right
thing. I also think that it is not realistic to try and do both. In
addition, it is clearly stated in the GSOC rules that you shouldn't.

I am off course very disappointed, but I cannot blame you. I just hope
that you'll learn interesting things during your internship, and that
maybe you'll be able to teach them to us :).

PS: David: Ideally, in such situation, you shouldn't warn your former
colleagues as soon as your new contract is signed. Warning early is a
good way to mitigate the disappointment.

PPS: Andreas: To answer your comment on whether that makes us look bad in
the face of Google or PSF: yes it does, in some sens. I don't know how to
avoid those situations: we want to choose good students, because that the
best way to get good work, but these students get other good offers. It's
a problem I have with post-docs too :).
