:). I think that this is a good illustration that the 'prettiness' of a website is very subjective and that there is no way to make everybody happy. In Paris, many people felt quite strongly that white was much better for these elements. Given that you cannot make everybody happy, my policy is to a) not worry about these details, b) try to emphasize readability, ease of navigation and branding rather when making website decisions.
