Hi, It seems that the information is now out. I'd like to welcome the four students that were accepted for the GSoC this year:
* Issam: Extending Neural networks http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/project/details/google/gsoc2014/issamou/5733935958982656 * Hamzeh: Sparse Support for Ensemble Methods http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/project/details/google/gsoc2014/hamsal/5709068098338816 * Manoj: Making Linear models faster http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/project/details/google/gsoc2014/manojkumar/5673522948997120 * Maheshakya: Locality Sensitive Hashing http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/project/details/google/gsoc2014/maheshakya/5754903989321728 Welcome to all of you. Your submissions were excellent, and you demonstrated a good will to integrate in the project, with it's social and coding dynamics. It is a privilege to work with you. I was especially pleased when I saw that some of you were helping other GSoC candidates to improve their submissions. Being able to work as a group, and being above competition is a testimonial of quality people! This is only a start. Now summer is coming and you will have to work your way through your project. Remember, these projects are challenging by definition, as we don't accept simple projects. But the number one cause of failure of projects (whether they be GSoC projects or in the industry) is not technical, but rather failure to communicate and failure to regulate goals accordingly to difficulties and resources. Your mentors, and the whole team of scikit-learn developers, are there to help you. They are drowning under a variety of requests, so you'll need to be good at communication, but they are also your allies. We did not expect to have four slots, rather two or three, based on the previous years. We did consider that we had four excellent proposals, and were facing a difficult choice. I am really happy that we could take all four of you. I just need to stress that this is a chance and a privilege. I'd also like to thank all the mentors, Alex, Arnaud, Daniel, James, Jaidev, Olivier, Robert and Vlad. It is a lot of work to mentor and mentors are not only making it possible for great code to enter scikit-learn, but also shaping a future generation of scikit-learn contributors.
