I find the current interface to set styles is perfect for Scintilla
being a slim component. Style setting operations can easily be
enumerated to avoid repetitive code.

Why don't you use SciTE as a base for your own project? Then you could
take advantage of all the properties-files stuff ;-)
Oh, I already wrote the silly code to interpret the SciTE
properties-file style-definition information... I just wonder how many
people have had to waste their time doing the same thing? :(
