Yes, I also want to place a limit on the size of the Scintilla project to keep it manageable for both implementation and use. The current size of the Scintilla API does deter some people and makes it difficult to find the particular feature needed. I have more stringent quality and portability goals for Scintilla and have accepted code into SciTE that is not good enough to include in Scintilla. A Scintilla augmentation library would be a good project for someone (that is, not me) to take up. As well as implementing the extra functionality, you will need to consider packaging techniques for use from different platforms and languages or to declare a preferred environment.
