Hello is there any possibility (using the python lexer for example)
to highlight matching braces even in strings?

SCI_BRACEMATCH should match as long as the two braces are in the
same style so should work within strings. Perhaps you are not calling
SCI_BRACEMATCH if the position is within a string.

Well, this is not what I see... OTOH, when examining the display of "brace matching" in a COMMENT or a STRING in a CSS file (which of course uses the notoriously tricky HTML lexer), it does work - but exposes a minor rendering flaw.

The caret is positioned improperly, overlaying the curly braces (left or right) in my testing... possibly because the brace hilite style is bolded, but the caret position has already been computed based on the unbolded glyph.

As for the other lexers I tried with SciTE (all from the current CVS tree), there was NO attempt to match braces inside of comments or strings - this is expected (by me, anyway) and mentioned by Philippe - the braces matching style causes the check not to be done in these other styles.
