What a strange subject line. Is the Compose command broken in your
Thunderbird version?
On my version, I can even right click on the e-mail address in the
header and choose Compose Mail to...

That's the original idea, I think.
but, in the pure plain text sense, you need to be able to split
based on a text line width in characters.
And, imo, since it is a text editor, the character width split is more
important,
and will/would more often be used.
So SciTE really needs to be modified to take either one as a parameter,
with an additional parameter to choose the mode, so that it can be better
used for plain text splits.
Should I request this somewhere?
You may find this a bit convoluted, but you can switch to fixed width
mode (Ctrl+F11), adjust the width of the window to the number of
characters you want, then operate your splits.
