I use Windows Explorer with success...
The way I use SciTE most often is to have a maximized Explorer and SciTE
in roughtly the right half of the screen, letting see the list of files
in Explorer. And I can easily drag'n'drop files from Explorer to SciTE,
as Explorer is kind enough not to go front for this operation.
Sometime I wish to have a capability I found in Textview
<http://www.flos-freeware.ch/textview.html> which allows to open a file
by a single click in the file list on the left, allowing quick browsing
to the files.
But, well, I can live with the current state of SciTE, which is not
designed for that.
Note that Florian Balmer, author of Textview, also made Notepad2, based
on Scintilla.
Note also that Metapath, on the same site, may be used the way you want,
if I understand correctly the (skimmed) explainations.
